Review of Lionel K-4 Pacific
The Lionel K-4 was my first venture in modern locomotive I wanted a K-4 locomotive and so I ordered it and the Lionel TMCC command set to control its extra functions. The locomotive is nicely build and has excellent paint work and detailing the engine retails for $350 which is a little on the high side if you ask me but it does have that magical Lionel name on it. The locomotive features RailSounds and a smoke unit the smoke unit was a little bit of a let down I thought that the fan forced smoke units were standard now but this engine come with a old type smoke unit. The sounds on this engine are excellent and nice and clear you can defiantly hear this locomotive coming.
In operation this locomotive performs averagely it's starting speed in command is a bit high and you can't really get the engine to crawl. I contacted the Lionel service department about the starting speed and they weren't that helpful apparently TMCC is not compatible with 50HZ mains frequency and this cause problems they did suggest a fix but this would cost almost $1000. If you're in the USA I do recommend this engine I don't know what it will operate like there but it doesn't operate very well on 50HZ mains here in NZ. I recommend anyone wanting to buy O gauge trains for operation outside of the US to buy MTH trains which are compatible with 50HZ.
Thanks to Lionel for allowing me to use their image for this review.
