Marklin Trains

In 1891 a small German toy firm called Marklin introduced a wind up toy train with an expandable track system. In 1900 the Marklin scales of 0, I, II and III were accepted as the world standards at this time Marklin had an electric train system that ran off the houshold voltage (usally 220/230V in Europe)they fixed this in 1926 when they introduced a 20V system making the electric trains safe for children.

By 1935 Marklin had introduced their range of HO (Half 0) size trains and were marketing them as a table top train system. By this time gauges I, II and III had been dropped and 0 gauge followed shortly. The Marklin HO gauge system went from strength to strength as they introduced new track systems, TELEX couplings and in the 1980s digital control.

In 1969 Märklin reintroduced I Gauge followed in 1972 by another Marklin inovation Mini-Club the smallest mass produced electric train system in the world.
