THE REAL MCCOY
The little known inventor who's name is a part of our every day vocabulary.
Elija McCoy has earned a degree in engineering.
But as a black man in the 1870's, the only job he can find is that of a lowly oiler on the Michigan Central Railroad.
Trains have to stop frequently to be oiled by hand.
McCoy figures there must be a better way!
So he designs a lubricating cup that automatically drips oil onto moving parts.
His invention is a hit. Soon, no heavy piece of machinery is considered complete unless it has a McCoy lubricator.
And people looking at a machine's lubricator begin to ask a question we're asking still… is that the real McCoy?
